Community Spotlight: Why I Want to Be A Veterinarian Essay Contest

We recently held our second annual “Why I Want to Be A Veterinarian” essay contest. This is a contest we do yearly, where children in our local community can write an essay—in 500 words or less—explaining why they want to be a veterinarian. We had so many incredible entries, it was hard to choose our favorites! Out of all the wonderful entries we received, fifteen contestants were chosen to join us for a very special event at our hospital. The day included:

• A behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital

• Patient exams including use of ultrasound machine

• Mock surgery presentation

• Learning about wound care and how to bandage

• Radiograph presentation

• Q&A with the doctors

• Lunch and Award Ceremony

In addition to all the wonderful activities, the top three contestants were surprised with their essays being published in the June edition of The Publisher’s Desk! Entries for 2025 will be accepted between 03/1/2025 to 05/15/2025. Check out photos of this year’s event below:
